There's A Rat In Camp

In less than two months Wentzville voters will be going to the polls to make their choice to get back on track, or go full-steam ahead with the Nickolas Guccione train wreck. He is supporting two candidates to go up against two of the brightest incumbents to be elected in Wentzville, Rick Stokes and Forrest Gossett. His justification: total control of the legislative branch of our city government by the executive branch (him).

Things keep changing with the candidates for April 2014, and at a rate I've never seen. First Sonya Shryock decided not to seek re-election, then Jay Webber bailed so Guccione can focus on only one candidate to take out Gossett, and now, at the eleventh hour, Patrick Vining pulls out leaving the Ward 2 seat to Michaeal Rhoades who will win by default. Elections in Wentzville have been really screwy in the past 15 or so years simply because there have been a number of unqualified power-hungry people willing to trade their good names for nothing short of narcissistic excellence. I won't give their names here right now, they know who they are—losers. I will however say that today, Mayor Nickolas Guccione is leading his new (retreaded) band of brothers (and sister) into the abyss of mud-slinging treachery, but after last year's election, they are not strangers to these tactics. What his recruits don't seem to care about is; they are following a pathological liar born storyteller who will drag their names into the same slimy dungeon that he and all his past comrades must now call home.

For the past few years there have been aldermen, and even mayors, who have been convinced that someone is leaking information to The Wentzvillian from executive sessions. Not long ago, the mayor ordered the police to sweep city hall for hidden bugs, not having the equipment to accomplish this task, they called in the St. Louis police department to search—they found nothing.

Now I have a puzzle for Mayor Nickolas Guccione. Can you guess who gave The Wentzvillian what you said to one of your closest confidants: "I regret doing many of the things I've done as Mayor..." A very humble thing to say, but when you add the last part of the sentence it gets very Guccionish: "...because so many people want me gone." He doesn't regret screwing things up as much as he hates that people found out about him. C'mon King Nickolas, do you think things are going to get better for you? As long as I have this new found rat in your home camp, many of your secrets will make the pages of The Wentzvillian. Happy reading! Oh, and if you want to sweep anyplace for bugs, call the St. Louis Police department for the job, quit wasting the time of Wentzville police with your stupid requests.

A little more campaign folly. Guess who was seen cavorting with Guccione and his candidate (against Rick Stokes), Linda Wright, right out in front of city hall this past Saturday? None other than Republican (RINO) Representative Brian Spencer. Spencer had been walking with Guccione door-to-door all last summer greasing the mayor's re-election chute in 2016, and Guccione's aldermanic choices for this April. I want to know why Spencer is so involved with the election of Wright and spends so much time prancing around with them in Wentzville. Aren't there any pressing issues at the state level that could use his attendance? Representative Spencer, you need to go somewhere else and keep your politicking in Jefferson City, you're getting a little more than obvious about meddling in the elections of Wentzville.

Election of April 2014

It's been a month since I posted here and in that time the goofy things going on with the city of Wentzville has continued. I won't get to those things today, but I promise some juicy stuff will be posted here soon. Right now, since the deadline for candidate registration has passed I want to talk about the coming election and some surprising developments that have arisen. We now know who is running, the question remaining is why some of them are seeking office; I will try to answer some of those questions today.

Unfortunately for our fair city; a few years ago a short-sighted group of aldermen pushed through an election to extend the term of mayor, we could have been throwing out the trash in April, instead we are condemned to endure our current situation for two more years, ugggg! The intent was to extend the alderman's term but that initiative backfired, consequently giving us the privilege of suffering through an appalling two more years of Nickolas Guccione. God, I don't want to think about that development anymore!

Ward 1 Candidates are; incumbent Forrest Gossett, Robert "Rob" Hussey, and Jay Webber. Gossett, who is seeking a second term is well versed in processes and procedures, he continuously tries to bring order to a mayor who just learned to bang a gavel (in all fairness, it only took Guccione one year to master that task). Gossett was difficult to read at first, but I believe he has evolved, and is a legitimate asset to the Board of Aldermen, he has earned a second term.

Robert Hussey failed in his bid for the Ward 1 seat last year against Cheryl Kross, and has come back this year to take another shot at it. A fair-haired apostle of Guccione who tried to slip him into the Wentzville City Administrator job, when that failed Guccione supported him heavily to take down Kross. During that race, Hussey held fund-raisers in St. Louis County and brought a large $6,000 war chest to the campaign. One of his biggest hurdles during the campaign was in trying to overcome his job history which included being fired by a nearby city from his City Manager Job. Guccione, will once again be plunging a lot of effort into Hussey's campaign to unseat Gossett, Guccione needs allies on the board to take complete control.

Jay Webber ran an unsuccessful campaign in 2012 in a two-candidate race against Gossett, he was one of Guccione's hand-picked hopefuls. Jay Webber is a nice guy, I like him, but I'd like him better if he would drop out of the race, because I don't think he can win in this three-way election. I believe Guccione has him running to split the vote, but that could also backfire by taking away anti-Gossett votes from Hussey, but I'm not sure either of them can beat Gossett, alone or in tandem.

Ward 2 Candidates are; Patrick Vining and Michael Rhodes who were initially going to take a run at the incumbent Sonya Shryock. Shockingly, Shryock withdrew from the race leaving her new found political advocate and benefactor, Nickolas Guccione, twisting in the wind. This was a pivotal key-seat for Guccione, Shryock had become his sock puppet right along with Michael Hays and Kross, they had tipped the balance of power. That seat is now lost to Guccione because the rumor mill is saying that both Vining and Rhodes have a very strong dislike for Nickolas Guccione, imagine that.

At the moment I'm not sure who I'd like to see win this race simply because of their feelings about our mayor. Both men have strong points and could be good for Wentzville. Vining filed for the election of 2011 but didn't campaign because he didn't want to run against Chris Gard, who he respected. Rhodes is a well-known and highly-respected businessman in Wentzville, and he could have a large following of voters. I'm very pleased to see a Wentzville business owner run for office here, its been since the 1980s that one has had enough guts to do it, thank you Mr. Rhodes for your courage!

Ward 3 Candidates are; Rick Stokes and Linda Wright. The selection between these two candidates should be a no-brainer, Stokes has two strong terms behind him,  and been elected President of the Board of Aldermen for the last two years. According to The Wentzvillian poll, Stokes is the strongest alderman on the board. His job approval is second to none, although Gard is a very close second. He was instrumental in helping Wentzville get back on the fiscal track.

Stokes record speaks for its self so I'll move on to his opponent, Linda Wright. Wright was a pawn for Guccione in the election of 2013, she was inserted to draw votes away from Darrel Lackey and give Hays an advantage. It worked, Wright gathered 142 votes and Lackey lost to Hays by 6 measly votes, Guccione's "appointment" took the election with a paltry 39 percent of the vote.

There is talk that Linda Wright will become the Donna Sherwood of Ward 3, Sherwood ran in every election for three consecutive years prior to this one. She finally gave up when she drew the lowest amount of votes in the election and being crushed by no-name Sonya Shryock.

In Conclusion: Guccione has stated in public that he's going to throw every bit of dirt he can find (even if he has to make it up) at his arch-enemy, Rick Stokes. It won't work, Stokes is a great alderman and Guccione has a reputation as the 'trash man,' he has an uphill battle carrying Wright up a very large hill. Guccione's only hope to maintain status-qua is to beat Gossett with either Hussey or Webber. He still has his sock puppets Hays and Kross, but he can't be sure with Kross, because she wants to take his office in 2016. I think anytime Kross gets a chance to let Guccione hang himself, she just might do it.

If Guccione cannot beat Gossett next April, he's going to have a miserable year, just like before Kross and Shryock flipped to run with his screwed-up agenda. If I were Kross, I'd mend some fences with Stokes, Gossett, and Gard, and prepare for trying to be re-elected in 2015 before she messes that up. Let Guccione go crazy with frustration, he'll screw up his chances of ever being re-elected—all by himself.

I'll be keeping up with developments of the election of April 2014 and keep you informed.

P.S.S.: Kross is going to be really upset after the election when Stokes is elected President of the Board for the third consecutive year, and Guccione will be going crazy sitting right next to him for two more years. LMFAO!

"That Sucks."

Did you ever feel the hairs on the back of your neck bristle while walking along a dark road in the night, or get the feeling that you were being watched, or maybe a sense that you were being followed? Doing what I do — exposing politicians who don't always color insides the lines — has from time-to-time put me in a somewhat less than desirable position, and I'm fine with that. You can't rack up the number of political enemies I have made without expecting some retaliation, especially from those I've been critical of. I started this post with this because I want to let those who are following me know that I know who you are, where you work, and who ordered it. To those who pursue me I say; follow away, but don't get so comfortable that you don't look over your own shoulder occasionally, you too have an observer. When the time is right names will be posted here.

Last week's meeting of the board of aldermen of November 20, 2013 (click here), had it's moments. I will be pointing out a few of the highlights, but first an observation: It's just a little more than four months to the election and perhaps technology is responsible, but the usual array of hopeful candidates are no where to be seen. Leading up to every election in recent memory there has always been several would-be-aldermen seen at every aldermen meetings. Almost every wanna-be started showing up at the meetings about six-months prior to an election, to either mouth off, have a photo-op, or just take notes, but they aren't here yet. From what I've heard, Mr. Joe Howard may be running against Sonya Shryock for the Ward 2 seat and that may be why he stood up to offer a rant against President of the Board, Rick Stokes. If you'd like to watch it, it takes place during the "Open Forum" section of the agenda. I've also been informed that another lady may be entering the Ward 2 race, but as yet there's nothing concrete. In Ward 1, rumor has it that Jay Webber may be coming out of mothballs after his 2012 loss to Forrest Gossett. If everything is as before, Mayor Nickolas Guccione will play a big hand in helping Webber once again, beware of the King Nickolas brand of mud-slinging to be flying around again this year.

Retiring Purchasing Director, Jerry Hillin, gave his farewell address to the aldermen recapping all that has been accomplished and his hopes for the future. Hillin has been a very busy man during his time here, he wrote the new City purchasing policy and along the way, made a few enemies in City Hall. Always outspoken, Hillin once again took a shot across the bow of the elected officials ship. He said he would pay for a plaque to be placed in the entrance of city hall which would read: "BEFORE YOU ENTER, LEAVE YOUR POLITICS AT THE DOOR." Shortly after that impromptu message, Mayor Nickolas told him to move on. The City owes a lot to Jerry Hillin for all he's accomplished for the future of good government in Wentzville. I for one will miss him and wish him well in his retirement.

I ask all of my readers to go to the city video of this meeting at 3:38:30, and just watch the discussion of the signage for "Double Fine Zones." The presentation was given by Acting City Administrator, Doug Lee, and Public Works Director, Susan Mueller, who showed examples of the proposed "Double Fine Zone" signs. I'm not going to go into a lot of detail about the discussion, it's something you need to see, to believe. Alderman Sonya Shryock dominated the discussion with what appeared to be like someone picking out drapes. She made some strange statements about elderly drivers and how she thinks the signs should be much larger. In her opinion, what is good enough for neighboring cities is not good enough for Wentzville's (seemingly blind) elderly drivers.

* * * * *
The "Aldermen Reports" were interesting, and there was a first. For the first time, perhaps ever, Alderman Cheryl Kross didn't prattle through a mountain of questions and minutia. When asked for her report she simply said, "I have no report." I need to think about that for a while.

There seems to be a mystery revolving around the report given by President of the Board Rick Stokes. From what I saw, Mayor Nickolas has singled out Stokes by having the directors send an email to Guccione anytime Stokes contacts them by phone or email, regardless of of the subject. It's funny that Guccione puffs up his chest and begins barking with hostility anytime Stokes or Gossett ask him a question. He really hates those guys, which means they must be doing the right thing, and that makes them okey-dokey with me.

Stokes asked him straight up if he was the only alderman that the directors report to Guccione about anytime he contacts them. Guccione got his hackles up, and for the second time in as many meetings he cited 125.100 Section C, stating, "It is a violation of City ordinance to undermine the duties of the Mayor." Unfortunately, Guccione doesn't seem to understand that his argument is not germane to that ordinance. People who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones, Mayor Nickolas must have forgotten that unlawful use of the City logo is a real crime. The Mayor is stirring the political pot with no basis of fact, he's after Stokes to get anything he can to use against him in the coming election, whether it's fact, or not.

The next item to look at is the "Mayor's Report, Ethics Policy Discussion." This item has been hotly contested for the last few weeks and it has become clear what's going on. Shryock has been asking to discuss this at several prior meetings and it has to do with accepting charitable donations by elected officials, here is where the story gets messy.

Shryock really doesn't have a dog in the ethics fight other than to be Guccione's front man. Guccione has recruited Shryock to do his bidding and she thinks it's in exchange for his support in the coming election. What she knows is; because of her poor record she has absolutely no chance of being re-elected on her own. So she figures if she nuzzles up to Guccione, he would support her campaign, I hope she tells me how that strategy worked out for her. She's begun following him around town like a puppy, but what she doesn't know is that Guccione doesn't care if she gets re-elected or not, he can use her now and for the next four months. He has her replacement waiting in the wings and he will use Shryock until that time, afterall, he still has Hays and Kross in his pocket, it's pretty pathetic. Her job performance rating is the lowest on the board and in her effort to salvage her seat, she turned from her opposition of Guccione—caving in to his politics, for that reason alone she really doesn't deserve a second term. Kross did that very thing about 10 months ago when she turned her back on the board to flip on her vote for Guccione's appointment of the unpopular choice of Michael Hays. I wonder today if, Aldermen Chris Gard and Gossett regret their vote to approve the appointment?

Back to the discussion: The ethics policy was revised after the incident involving Mayor Paul Lambi who confessed to the Missouri Ethics Commission his guilt in taking charitable donations for his benefit. Guccione wants to have this section repealed so that he can solicit donations for charitable organizations.

During the discussion, Alderman Forrest Gossett tried to explain why the policy excluded allowing elected officials to accept charitable donations without pointing fingers at Lambi. Guccione got huffy again and in his paranoid way barked; "This is pretty insulting Sir. You talk about a Mayor in the past using charitable donations for their own benefit, Sir, but I never saw that, show me that in writing, Sir!" Guccione has either got a real short memory, or he was asleep in the closed sessions of that time, because the report clearly states that very thing. At one point during the battle with Gossett, Guccione said. "That sucks!" I've never heard a mayor use that term from the dais before, then again, Guccione does a lot of things I've never seen a mayor do or say before, and he doesn't do a lot of things a mayor should do and say.

Guccione used Shryock to bring the ethics policy back to the board, he will do anything to get it changed. I wish Shryock luck with her April election, she's gonna need it. When she's sitting at home after losing the election, I wonder if she'll remember how much she hated Guccione when she was a contributing member of the board during her first year in office? Please watch this "Mayor's Report," I think you'll find it both informative, and entertaining.

Wentzville Hall of Shame

Looking at the candidates, I noticed that I hadn't said nearly enough about one of our candidates for Mayor; Bill Schuette. When he was Alderman of Ward 2, he was loud, arrogant, and absolutely uneducated in governmental procedures. In his first term he stumbled his way onto the Wentzville Hall of Shame and dragged Nick Guccione and John Luby down with him. He continuously embarrassed himself, other Aldermen, and the City both in public and on record.

With Schuette leading Guccione and Luby it was like watching the Three Stooges, none of them had any knowledge of the City or city government but here they were, large and in charge. This group was elected because they were recruited by Vickie Boedeker in a conspiracy to control the Board of Aldermen (doesn't that sound familiar?) and three Aldermen retired. It almost worked, they were elected to the Board but Boedeker lost her bid for Mayor. With no one to tell them how to vote or act, Schuette took charge, what a disaster. If any Board in Wentzville was ever called dysfunctional, they set the bar. They drove the sane Aldermen and Mayor Lambi insane with ridiculous studies, ordinances, and over-spending. I think it's funny how Guccione makes a point of taking exception to studies today; he, Schuette, and Luby passed more studies in their term than I've ever seen. Only after a barrage of news articles questioning the need for these studies did Guccione change his tune today. It's like a new toy, he brings it up every time the staff proposes one, thinking it will be a feather in his proverbial cap.

It's difficult to talk about Schuette without dragging Guccione into the conversation, they were so close it was like trying to separate coffee filters. Both of them decided to run for Mayor in 2010 and were obviously unsuccessful. Since Schuette gave up his Alderman seat to run, when he lost, he was off the scene. Luby lost his re-election bid and that left Guccione all alone on the Board floundering around like a hooked fish on the river bank flip-flopping around ever since.

After Schuette had lost the election and his seat, he may have had an epiphany himself  that he had made a mistake running for Mayor. That decision subsequently cost him his seat on the Board of Aldermen so he decided to try regaining his seat in 2011. Running against him was Chris Gard, Patrick Vining, and the ever present, bad penny Donna Sherwood. His Ward 2 constituents had been embarrassed long enough and denied his plea to be re-elected and instead elected newcomer; Chris Gard. They also knew about Sherwood and reminded her a second time that they didn't want her anywhere around city hall. I sincerely hope they remember next month to scratch Schuette and Sherwood (oh, and Guccione too) from their vote. I know that the good citizens of Ward two deserve better representation than they had from Schuette or would get from Sherwood.

It's been only one year that we've had a productive intelligent Board of Aldermen and there is only one Alderman remaining from the good-old-boy days; Nick Guccione. If the voters get this right next month we can preserve the integrity of our board by keeping incumbent Rick Stokes, Ward 3; electing Sonya Shyrock or Jeremy Pritchett in Ward 2; and elect Forrest Gossett in Ward 1; then for Mayor we need to elect either Leon Tow or Darrel Lackey. The balance of the candidates on the ballot were recruited by Nick Guccione in an effort to recreate his control of the board just like Boedecker tried. The Guccione recruits are: Jay Webber, Ward 1, Donna Sherwood, Ward 2, and Rodney Stratman and Curtis Davis in Ward 3.

Vickie Boedeker's effect on Wentzville has burdened our city for eight years and we can ill afford another conspiracy to get a foot-hold in our city. If any of Guccione's recruits are elected it will have a huge negative impact on Wentzville for years to come. The only thing left to do is find a new independent thinking candidate to replace Guccione in 2013, then Wentzville will be able to move forward without agendas or conspiracy in our government. I'd agree with Guccione that he's a good and ethical Alderman, but then we'd both be wrong.
